Looks like, it has been a week of big acquisitions: Intel acquired McAfee, Facebook acquired Hot Potato, and no, it’s not the end to the week’s buying. Now it is Google turn and it buys the shopping site major Like.com.
Like.com is the shop visually store that sells retail products, especially accessories such as handbags, belts, shoes, jewelry and home décor and clothes. The acquisition of Like by Google is aimed to boost the Google’s capabilities for visual shopping search.
The first rumors of Google interested in buying Like.com was a couple of years ago, although it materialized only now. Like was founded way back in 2004 and it was Riya before it changed to Like.com. Munjal Shah, the co-founder and CEO of Like.com announced acquisition deal on Friday, August 20, 2010.
It should be noted here that Like.com owns Covet.com which is a place for online shopper to look for fashion accessories and products, and it also owns Couturious.com a virtual styling studio. Munjal Shah did not disclose the financial details of the acquisition.
