Centenarian Somalian man marries a girl who is more than 90 years younger than him. The 112-years-old Ahmed Muhamed Dhore wed 17-year-old Safiya Abdulle. Dhore said that he had not forced her on marriage but used his experience to convince the young girl (who could be his great grand daughter’s age) of his love for her.
Ahmed Muhamed Dhore already is 5 times wedded before and has 18 children through his previous wives and has 101 grandchildren. He now wishes to expand his clan further with Safiya Abdulle, his 17-year-old bride. Both Dhore and Saifiya Abdulle hail from the Guriel village, and it seems Dhore waited patiently for Saifiya to grow to marry her.
Dhore said at his wedding, “today God helped me realize my dream.” The centenarian further quoted of saying, “married life is about love and passion rather than age and beauty.” The wedding ceremony took place in the village town of Guriel and many people attended the function on Wednesday. He had his children as well as two wives consent to the marriage. Three of his wives died and it’s his wedding in the last 75 years. The bride’s family said that she is happy with her new husband.
It’s a common thing in this eastern African country, Somalia to get married to very old men, although a marriage like this is rare.
The minimum age for marriage for the girls was 18 and 16 (if it is with the consent of guardians). According to estimates by non-profit agencies and developmental organizations, the average life expectancy in this eastern African nation is 47 for a male.
