Exclusive school for pregnant teens in Malaysia

A school that is just for pregnant teens to open soon in Malacca State, Malaysia. The objective of the school is to help teenage pregnant girls to overcome the social stigma of bearing children before they entered wedlock. The school is all set to open on September 16, 2010, and will initially have 30 admissions (read 30 pregnant teens).
The school will be run by the Department of Islamic Affairs in Malacca. The school offers coaching in subjects including sciences, mathematics, English, other subjects besides some religious counseling, says the school chairman Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman. The school also has a hostel facility in the vicinity for the pregnant girls.
The school chairman says that the school is like giving the girls another chance to rebuild confidence and future. The girls; however, can go back to their conventional schools after they deliver babies.
The idea stems out of the stats that show pregnant girls dropping out of schools as well as abandoning the babies in public toilets, garbage dumps, etc. This year alone saw 50 babies abandoned and found dead. This is because sex off a marriage is considered a taboo by Muslims in Malaysia. Malacca state has recorded about 70 babies born out of wedlocks this year and the authorities believed that there is a need for such school to offer the girls second chance to pursue with their education.
In fact, Chief Minister of Malacca encouraged teenage girls to get married and assured of state funds to help them start a family too.
