Philadelphi will be the first Iranian film about Gaza siege and life of Palestinians in Gaza after war

Looks like Iranian cinema is emerging to be one of the most acclaimed in Asia; the film makers in Iran are going with the idea of bringing Gaza siege on the celluloid, and named it ‘Philadelphi.’

Phialdelphi will be the first movie ever to showcase the deplorable condition of the Palestinians and the siege they experienced in 20 days time between December 27, 2008 and January 18, 2009 when the Israeli army took an onslaught along Gaza Strip. It should be noted that about 1,500 Palestinians were mercilessly killed and many injured in the Israeli attack. The siege by Israel also left the infrastructure in Gaza absolutely useless.

The ‘Philadelphi’ movie is planned to be filmed in a tunnel beneath Rafah border-crossing, as it happens to be the Gaza’s terminal that cirmumvents Israel. Gaza Palestinians use only tunnels that link deplorable strip to Egypt and get their basic and day-to-day supplies including food, meds and fuel.

The film will depict the plight of Gaza people, and how a small group of Palestinians take efforts of making day-to-day living wading through tunnels that connect Gaza to Egypt.

Philadelphi will be a joint venture from Esmail Rahimzadeh and another film maker Mojtaba Asadipour, confirms the producer Ezatollah Jamei-Nadoshen. The makers of Philadelphi say that the shooting will commence by this month end, and they hope to screen it at the Tehran’s 2011 Annual International Fajr Film Festival.
