China’s second lunar probe, Chang’e-2 by October 2010

According to Chinese government media, China will be launching its second lunar probe in October 2010. The lunar probe, Chang’e-2 will go closer to the moon than its first probe, chang’e-1 which was sent in 2007. Chang’e-1 was the unmanned lunar probe and it was only recently that the probe finished 3D lunar mapping in the highest resolution.

According to the China Daily report, Chang’e-2 will be orbiting about 60 miles closer to moon than Chang’e-1. And, Chang’e-2 is the next stage of the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program and the next stage will be a spacecraft to bring samples from moon.

Chinese Lunar Exploration Program, lately, has made significant steps and progress during this decade. It became the third country after US and Russia to send a person in orbit.
