SAO PAULO (Brazil) – Several dead penguins wash up on shores of Brazil’s beaches.
Hundreds of the penguins are starved to death and washed off on the shores of Peruibe, Itanhaem and Praia Grande beaches of Sao Paulo for over a week now. The cause of penguins’ death is being investigated by team of scientists.
However, initial reports say that the birds are migrators to north from countries including Chile, Argentina, as well as Falkland Islands. The Magellanic penguins swim up to warmer waters in search of food; however, initial autopsy reports indicate the birds had empty stomachs implying they must have been starved – to death.
It is still uncertain if too much human activity such as over fishing has depleted penguin’s diet, but the scientists are investigating on it.
