Herta Mueller wins Nobel Literature

German author Herta Mueller wins the Nobel Literature Prize for 2009 for her work based on her own life under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania.
56-year-old Herta Muller’s work was hailed by jury as concentration of poetry and frankness of prose. According to jury she has a very, very unique style and a lot of force in her writing.
German, Herta Muller becomes the 12th woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Life under Nicolae’s regime and crude treatment of the Romanian Germans featured in Mueller’s works and that fetched her the prize. After Nicolae’s death, Mueller was quoted of saying, Romania had developed collective amnesia over its repressive past.
