Statue of Liberty to get new staircase for safety. The New York’s 125-year-old landmark, Statue of Liberty will get another new staircase to add to the already 354 steps as an added safety feature.
It is these 354 steps that actually spiral up through the crown of the Statue of Liberty, and so far it is this route that forms the way to escape during emergency for tourists.
The National Park Service officials actually closed the place to have the security of the place upgraded. A $20 million worth upgrade is being undertaken, and the place was closed down for over 8 years from September 11, 2001 to improve the fire safety.
In view of building another stair case and a pedestal, the statue of Liberty will close for mostly another year again.
