According to US researchers of the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, exercise after the brain radiation treatment protects against memory loss and depression.
According to the findings of study, presented at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Chicago, mice which had access to exercise wheel suffered little from memory loss after being subjected to radiation. The mice that had access to exercising wheel also were less likely to suffer from depression.
According to the lead scientist of the study Sarah Woong-Goodrich the radiation-given mice were as good as those mice that didn’t receive irradiation and that didn’t exercise.
The findings of their study showed exercise could be great and loaded with benefits that could restore mice after receiving whole-brain radiation therapy. This could actually help increase the cancer survivors said.
However the patient should get an exercise clearance from the doctor. Patients after irradiation are bound to become physically as well as mentally deconditioned, but the study’s findings should be a ray of hope to condition back the brain and enjoy both psychological and cognitive benefits from exercising.
