Sen. Edward Kennedy who passed away on August 25, 2009 suffered from the most prevalent brain cancer called glioma.
According to The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) a brain tumor is abnormal proliferation of a brain cell.
Kennedy was diagnosed of brain tumor way back in 2008 after he suffered a seizure and a biopsy of a mass in the left parietal lobe revealed it as glioma at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
After initial dilemma the tumor was operated and doctors who performed the surgery said that the surgery was a success.
Glioma which is prevalent brain cancer with adults poses challenge to doctors who believe that it can be checked by surgical excision for the reason that glioma grows on roots that go and spread to surrounding tissues.
Although 77-year-old Edward Kennedy had had chemotherapy and radiation post surgery he had suffered many seizures and eventually succumbed to cancer yesterday.
