Green leafy veggies may reduce developing diabetes. Including lot of green leafy vegetables in the diet may reduce risk of type 2 diabetes, suggest British researchers.
According to a review and analysis by team led by Patrice Carter from the University of Leicester, taking 1.5 servings of green leafy veggies everyday reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by about 14%.
The findings of Patricia Carter et al were published online in the British Medical Journal and the findings also report that taking a combination of fruit and vegetables did not significantly affect the type 2 diabetes risk. The authors of the paper suggested follow up of the study and further investigations for concurrence in results.
The authors however say that their analysis and report support that foods not the isolated ingredients and components of foods reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Carter and team reviewed and analyzed 6 studies that involved a huge sample of about 220,000 participants. The studies focused on correlation of taking fruits and vegetables and development of type 2 diabetes.
