Mangosteen juice with anti-inflammatory properties?

If you thought Mangosteen juice could only help in weight loss control, you got to think again. According to a new study, the fruit juice has anti-inflammatory properties that can help in prevention of heart disease as well as diabetes in the obese.

The tropical fruit Mangosteen doesn’t have any links to Mango is available as canned and frozen juice across shelves of grocers in Europe and North America. According to a paper published in the Nutrition Journal, when the juice of this tropical plant is taken the levels of C-reactive protein(CRP) is lowered and CRP is a known measure or inflammation marker.

In a placebo trial, according to Dr. Jay Udani from the Medicus Research in Northridge, California, taking 500 mL of mangosteen juice a day could actually significantly lower the levels of C-reactive protein (as much as 1.33mg/L) as compared to increase of C-reactive protein level in the placebo treatment (as much as 0.9mg/L).

According to the lead researcher, the study calls for follow up further research in a larger sample size to confirm benefits of mangosteen juice.
