While there are 13 million premature babies born (a 10% of newborns) across the world every year, about a million of these babies actually don’t survive and die within a month’s time.
According to a report by New York based March of Dimes, about 1 million babies, die as early as in their 1st month, every year across the globe. The report also warns that the number might increase should the premature birth rates increase. Birth before 37 months of gestation is regarded premature and about 10% of births globally are premature.
Both Africa and Asia account for 85 per cent premature births.
This is a bigger problem than seen because it could have its impact on the families’ emotions and healths as well as on the health systems and countries’ economies as well.
According to the March of Dimes report, both United States and Canada account for over 500,000 premature births annually.
