Cancer of the throat- what can be more devastating than that especially for an actor as good as Michael Douglas?
That too one that was difficult to diagnose, to treat can work hard on mind and body, because of possibility of losing voice and ability to swallow any food.
This is what has been happening with Douglas lately, but doctors believe his prognosis to be good, which is in fact something sort of rare in throat cancer cases when the person is a smoker and/or drinker.
On the David Letterman “Late Show,” the 65-year-old actor shared that the doctors gave him 80% survival chance from the stage 4 cancer that he is suffering from.
Michael Douglas is currently seeking treatment for his stage 4 cancer at Manhattan Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
The stage 4 tumor is about a walnut size at base of his tongue and according to Dr. Kevin Cullen, Director of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center say that Douglas is curable. Dr. Kevin Cullen is medical oncologist and specializes in head and neck cancers.
The actor was diagnosed of stage 4 throat cancer 3 weeks ago although he presented with sore throat symptoms early this YEAR.
Michael Douglas is to receive eight weeks’ daily radiation treatment as an outpatient, besides 2 rounds of chemotherapy. According to Dr. Cullen should the cancer be HPV related then the conjunctive treatment of radiation and chemotherapy works very well in Douglas with an excellent prognosis.
Cullen says over sometime Doulgas should be eating well, although he didn’t see Doulgas’ and didn’t study the case in detail after which he can give more appropriate prognosis.
