Raisins fight tooth decaying bacteria

Raisins fight cavities not cause them. Yes, sugary raisins, and if you thought they could cause decays and cavities all these days, you are wrong. According to a new study by American scientists the healthy sweet alternative to sugared snacks, raisins, may prevent tooth damage not cause one.

Raisins are rich in flavonoids, polyphenols, iron and phosphorus and they are also rich in germ fighting constituents that suppress tooth decays; for instance the oleanolic acid is an anti-microbial phytochemical in raisins and its found to suppress activity of Streptococcus mutans biofilm, the bacterium responsible for tooth disease. So eat raisins lot to benefit in oral health

The findings of the study are published in the Journal of Nutrition.
