Swedish researcehrs advocate expectant mothers to eat vegetables. Their research findings say that expectant mothers who consumed lot of vegetables everyday had children with less likelihood of developing the type-1 diabetes.
The team of scientists from the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg together with Linkoping University, Sweden sampled 6,000 children with blood tests and a 3 per cent of these didn’t show increased concentration of antibodies that attack insulin-generating cells and didn’t have type-1 diabetes at age 5.
Their findings presented in the journal of Pediatric Diabetes, further showed that, the risk markers for diabetes were more than double in children whose mothers didnt quite eat vegetables during their pregnancy.
The researchers further said that although it is the first ever study to show some correlation between expectant mothers eating vegetables during pregnancy and childhood diabetes, more conclusive studies and followup research is warranted to derive anything definitive.
