Solvent exposure increases congenital defects risk in babies of the exposed

According to US researchers there is a correlation between prenatal exposure of mothers to solvents such as tetrachloroethylene and the risk of congenital defects in their offsprings.

Tetrachloroethylene aka perchlorethylene (PCE), one of the common solvents, seeps accidentally into drinking water and according to a finding published in the Environmental Health, there is a positive correlation between increased risk of birth defects including cleft palate and neural tube defects in those kids whose mothers during their pregnancy lived in those towns of Cape Cod area, MS where vinyl coated pipes were used duirng 1969 and 1983.
