World Cancer Research Fund says that about 10,000 cancers (both breast and bowel) every year can be prevented in Britain should people take to brisk walking.
Being physically active and maintaining healthy weight can reduce the risk of any cancers. Experts say that being physically active can impact hormone levels and lower the risk of cancer.
The scientists at the World Cancer Research Fund say that about 4600 bowel cancers and approximately 5000 breast cancers in a year can be prevented in United Kingdom itself if the people chose to be physically engaged and active especially those activities such as brisk walking that make the hearts beat faster. Half an hour of brisk walking a day can help lower the risk of getting diagnosed with the aforesaid cancers.
According to The American Cancer Society, physical activity is thought to lower the risk of getting diagnosed with breast and prostate cancers by regulating the respective hormone levels. For colon cancer (bowel cancer), however, walking speeds up digestion thereby reducing the time of exposure of the bowel linings to the potentially harmful chemicals.
Europe is notorious for having huge overweight population and obesity is linked to over 8% of cancers.
