Brazil wins the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup
The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup saw great surprises this year and we thought that US will make to the pages of history by winning in the finals too on Sunday. Unfortunately it didn’t happen, and Brazil is too stronger a team for the US, and it came overpowering them with a 3-2 win. But the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup finals and the tournament as a whole was tipped to be the likely preview for 2010 FIFA World Cup.
A surprise win against 2008 European champs spain is no mean thing for the US and they proved they were there playing against Brazil in the Confederations Cup finals as a fluke. The 10th minute of the game saw a wonderful first goal by Clint Dempsey. Tim Howard had been amazing at the gate (no wonder he won the Golden Glove award for being the best goalie of the tournament). In the first half of the match itself LA striker scored second goal for US. The US team outsmarted Brazilians during the first half.
On the other hand, the Brazilian team indeed didn’t play with ease. It was only during the second half that they resumed playing normally and scored their 3 goals to win the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 against US with a 3-2 score.
Luis Fabiano wins the Golden Boot for being top scorer and Tim Howard the Golden Glove for being best goalkeeper. The best players list is like this: Clint Dempsey the Bronze Ball player for being the third best player; Luis Fabiano the Silver Ball player as the second best player and Kaka wins the Golden Ball for being the tournament’s best player.
