LG ICC 2009 awards announced- India tops honors

Regarded as Cricket Oscars, the prestigious LG ICC 2009 Awards were announced at an awards function on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa. India top shares the honors.
Mitchell Johnson of Australia bags the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the 2009 award. The Australian left-arm fast bowler has to his credit 80 wickets in the tests and he starred with bat (had a century and 3 fifties in the 632 runs he made from 17 tests played) as well as ball in the 3 formats of the game during the last one year’s time. He’s beaten England captain Andrew Strauss, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir to bag the coveted ICC 2009 cricketer.
Gautam Gambhir of India takes the award of ICC test player of the year 2009. He inched farther beating Andrew Strauss, Johnson and Thilan Samaraweera to land being the best test cricketer of 2009.
The 27-year-old stylish opening batsman from India amassed 1269 runs from eight Tests during the last year and had an impressive average of close to 81. He made 5 centuries and 4 fifties in that 1269 runs.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India takes the award of ICC ODI player of the year 2009. The Indian captain took the award for 2nd consecutive term. MS Dhoni has to his credit 967 runs from 24 matches averaging over 60 runs. MS Dhoni has been chosen as captain for ICC Test team and the ODI team of the year 2009.
Peter Siddle of Australia was awarded the ICC Emerging player of the year 2009. The 24-yeard-old Australian featured in 12 test matches and has taken 49 wickets.
Tilakaratne Dilshan of Sri Lanka won the ICC Best Performer of T20 for the year 2009. Dilshan hit 97 runs and remained unbeaten from just 57 balls against West Indies in England at the ICC World Twenty20 2009.
England’s woman cricketer Claire Taylor for her heroics with the bat has been adjudged ICC Women Cricketer of the year 2009.
William Porterfield, the Irish captain has been voted as ICC Associate Player of the Year 2009.
New Zealand team bags ICC Spirit of Cricket for 2009 award
Aleem Dar, the Pakistan umpire bags the ICC Umpire of the year 2009.

Gautam Gambhir, Andrew Strauss, AB de Villiers, Sachin Tendulkar, Thilan Samaraweera, Michael Clarke, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C), Shakib Al Hasan, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Broad, Dale Steyn, 12th man: Harbhajan Singh.
ICC ODI Team of the year 2009:
Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Yuvraj Singh, Martin Guptill, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C), Andrew Flintoff, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ajantha Mendis, Umar Gul, 12th man: Thilan Thushara(Sri Lanka).
MS Dhoni has been chosen as captain for both ICC Test Team as well as the ODI Team of the year 2009.
ICC World Twenty20 Team of the year 2009 (was announced a couple of months back in June 2009):
Chris Gayle Tillakaratne Dilshan, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Younis Khan (C), Dwayne Bravo, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal (WK), Wayne Parnell, Umar Gul, Ajantha Mendis, 12th man: Lasith Malinga.
The LG ICC Awards is in its 6th year now and are taken as cricket Oscars by players. The selection of the annual awards is based on the performance of players during the period ranged between August 13, 2008 and August 24, 2009. The LG ICC Awards 2009 are presented by ICC in association with the FICA. The Selection Panel included 5 experienced players:
