Oudin ousts Maria Sharapova and Isner shocks Andy Roddick

Former number 1, and three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova wouldn’t have thought that the 17-year-old Melanie Oudin will upset her at the US Open 2009. But the 17-year-old teen sensation did give her a shocker and sends Sharapova out of contention. But clearly Sharapova wasn’t her best form and her serve had been bad. Time for Sharapova to change her coach, at least looks like!

Melanie’s still the Georgia’s favorite kid and by kid I mean she loves to freak on words like awesome, amazing and cool. Her win against the former number one definitely mean a lot to every American.

Melanie will now face 13th ranked Nadia Petrova (and yeah she is a Russian too!) in the fourth round here at the Flushing Meadows. Let her continue to play with confidence! Go Oudin go!

The win possibly will open up doors to American women players (there haven’t been one after Williams’ sisters to foray into Tennis) to embark on the game of tennis. I would love to see Melanie join the ranks of Williams’ sisters. She is confident and definitely has what it takes to go far in the world of tennis!

In the men’s circuit, Jesse Witten could have ousted popular man Novac Djokovic but couldn’t pull it off after winning the first set. In another match between Andy Roddick and John Isner it was a surprise again.

Andy Roddick, who I thought, has been playing awesome game of tennis, got beaten by lesser-known 55th ranker John Isner in the third round of the US Open. Isner advanced to 4th round after sweating out for 5 sets and ousting Roddick by 7-6 (3), 6-3, 3-6, 5-7, 7-6 (5). John Isner is another Georgian! Yowzza, call it coincidence or whatever.

With the near misses in Grand Slam finals and losing cheaply to lesser-known players, I wonder if Andy will ever win a Grand Slam for him.

But the weekend has been great at the US Open with American tennis showing signs of revival.
