United States Environmental Protection Agency bans Carbofuran pesticide usage

The American farmers who will use carbofuran pesticide to treat their crops come December 31 will be prosecuted by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances carbofuran doesn’t comply with the food safety standards and the EPA announced a ban on the usage of the pesticide after a six-month long study as well as public comment.

The short-term as well as long-term health effects from the use of highly toxic carbamate pesticide, carbofuran, were studied which include headaches, nausea, sweating, chest pain, diarrhea, blurred vision, muscle weakness and anxiety from the pesticide residues on foods.

The EPA requested cultivators to switch to alternate safer pesticides; still better to devise environment-friendly pest management strategies.
