Ponting retires from Twenty20 Internationals

Successful Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, announces his retirement from T20 cricket. He had started to go to England and join his team for the remaining one day debacle as well to lead his team to the following Champions Trophy in South Africa.

He led the Australian team only to be unsuccessful in defending the Ashes. Following the Ashes debacle Ponting found him in the tides of criticism at home and outside. Although CA bestowed faith in the 35-year-old champion cricketer who had given many successes to team Australia captaining the side that had the likes of McGrath, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist.

Ponting announces he will retire from T20 and likes to give the captaincy bastion to his deputy Michael Clarke. He reckons Clarke as a hardworking deputy and he remains vice captain for Tests and one-days.

According to Fox Ponting was quoted of saying, “the last 10 or 12 days for me have been a lot about reflection, looking back to the Ashes and looking forward to my playing future.”

“As of today I’ve decided to retire from international Twenty20 cricket. The decision I have made is all to do with my longevity in the game.”
