Apple iPod Lineup gets a makeover

Steve Jobs unveiled new Apple iPod lineup that features Nano model having no buttons other than touchscreen controls. The iPod Touch gets revamped and a make over that the new lineup comes with video-chatting features taking after the latest iPhone.

Steve Jobs also unveiled the new iPod Shuffle with the good ol’ days’ square shape and buttons resembling the second-generation iPod Shuffle. The Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs announced a new line of iPods on Wednesday, including a Nano model that has uber cool touchscreen controls and lacks buttons.

The Nano iPod comes with an integrated FM tuner and can even display the pictures. However, the refresh is that there will be no buttons, and all the controls come on the screen. The iPod Nano is priced at $149 and $179 for 8GB and the 16GB versions, respectively.

The video chat facility in the revamped version resembles what we see in the latest iPhone and the front faced camera conducts the video chats with users of iPod Touch and the iPhone over a Wi-Fi using what is called the FaceTime program. The price range will be $229 through $399.

The new Apple iPod Shuffle will be the most inexpensive music player from the Apple and it has the square shape and has buttons of the second-generation Shuffle. The new iPod Shuffle costs $49.

In the interim, Apple has been working to add social features to the iTunes software, and the iTunes 10 will bring out new ways and means wherein users will know what their buddies are listening to. The new feature Apple calls Ping, and is most likely based on technology that it acquired with Lala.com.

Ping in the iTunes will allow people to “follow” friends, musicians as well as anyone they chose to. It sorta resembles the way microblogging sites such as Facebook or the Twitter work. Ping also has the top-10 lists just like Yahoo Buzz or the Google trends.

Steve Jobs also announced that the iPhone users would get software update so they can upload high-definition videos over the Wi-Fi. And for photos too the software will have 3 three image copies that, Jobs say, when combined, give a clearer and a sharper image.

The iTunes software is iOS 4.1 and will be released during the coming week and will be available for free for the Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPod Touch users.
