To the shock of the tech world, a $35 laptop prototype was unveiled by the Indian government today.
Indian government has made it possible by indigenously making world’s most inexpensive laptop. This implies millions will get access to the computing world, and India might well soon realize its OLPC dream. Developed by team of scientists from IITs and IISc, the touchscreen gadget if it should click will be a wonder in the gadget world.
The laptop costs $35 and includes a touchscreen, a USB port, color display screen, 2 GB storage with WiFi capabilities for Internet connectivity. Furthermore, the $35 laptop sports PDF reader, carries browsers and has video conferencing capabilities. They say there is more room for some more add ons. Tech world is in praise of the Indian government for taking initiatives to expand educational services and reach every child.
The $35 laptop is another pricing wonder after the Tata Nano (the $2500 car) although the size and the form of the laptop prototype yell it should be possible at that price. Critiques though are of the opinion that the laptop must have been made with recycled parts and still $35 is an awesome price for a laptop having features better than an iPhone.
